Just daddying around

Picasa web album

I just received an invitation from Google to try the new Picasa Web Albums.

You need a Gmail account and you get 250 mb free upgradable to 6gb (25$) free space to upload your photos.

You can get in line for an invitation here.

You are prompted to download Picasa 2 photo manager in order to upload your pictures but you can do it from you browser too.

It is still in beta and you get the basic tools for organizing your photos. You can see your photoso as a slideshow and mark as a favorite others albums.

But you cant even see others people photos unless you have their URL. Still, its a clean interface, googlelike, and its fun to play with.

Mine is http://picasaweb.google.com/kyramas/

It seems that Google is getting into the community photo sharing business but there is a lot to be done with this web gallery test.

Picasa 2 is nice program but I am too used to Acdsee Pro 8 to change now.

Maybe when picasa web album is a mature product I will move from Flickr to Google.

As for now Flickr is great !

  2. I think the speed of the client-side Picasa tool for organizing and viewing photos is as good or better than ACDSee, although I never used the ‘pro’ version. It does have built-in searching and other features as well. I gave a review of the Picasa Web Albums here: http://dinsmores.org/?p=57. Its a little long to review in this comment area. The bottom line? I like it and use it, but Flickr would definitely be an option if it had a great integrated desktop tool for managing and organizing one’s photos as well.
