Since my childhood I learned the hard way how the virtue of sincerity can be a bad thing.
This cant be, you will argue.
A virtue is always a good thing.
A virtue for which all I got in return was spanking and punishment.
And as an adult all I got was rejection and contempt.
But now I know better.
No more straightforwardness.
The only thing you get is being manipulated.
No more being sincere.
The only thing you get is being abused.
No more truth.
The only thing you get is more lies…
Now the pretending will start.
Now I must learn how to tell pretty lies.
Now I must learn how to be an actor like everyone else.
If I can. And more likely, I cant.
You see, you cant get rid of a virtue.
